Frequently Asked Questions
What is a zine?
A zine is a fandom project where creators write fanfiction, make fanart and otherwise create pieces around a central theme. The project culminates with the formatter piecing all of the creations together into a PDF -or in the case of a physical project- a physically printed zine. How does a free zine differ from a for-profit zine?
A free zine is a project that is unpaid, and the end result is a zine that is available completely free of charge. They also tend to have more flexibility and often offer sign ups instead of applications. For-profit zines tend to have applications periods, and the profit that is generated is typically split evenly between all contributors and moderators. A charity zine is also a paid project, but the proceeds are donated to a charity at the conclusion of the project. All zines can be lax or strict on the above guidelines, and each individual project runs differently based on how the mods put it together. Be sure to check out the projects and project mods thoroughly before you get involved so you know what to expect! What about this zine; can anyone sign up?
Yes! We will be opening sign-ups for this zine in just a few weeks time, and anyone over the age of 18 can join! Want to be in the zine and you’ve done over 100 projects? Come on in! Maybe you want to join but don’t have a portfolio or any experience? You’re welcome to join as well! What are the steps of being in a zine?
The first step is always researching the project! Find their social media, read their FAQ, research the mods and what other projects they’ve done. Whether you take a quick browse or delve in-depth, staying informed is always important!Next step is sign-ups or applications! You’ll typically find a form available and linked on the social media pages of the project when this period is open, so just fill it out, include any of the requested information, and be sure to check for the Discord links or other requirements. If the project has an application period, you’ll typically receive the Discord invite & link when and if you’re approved to join the zine via the email you applied with. After that is usually pitches- this is where you ‘pitch’ your ideas to the mods, who decide which to approve in order to create a well-rounded zine. Once pitches have been approved, it’s time for the creation period to begin!Creation generally takes a few months, but each project has their own timeline, so be sure to check the schedule and set yourself reminders for check ins! After all the check ins occur during creation, it’s time for final submissions, where you submit your completed piece(s) to the mod team. The mods will then work to place all the pieces from all creators and contributors together into the zine in a process called formatting. When formatting is finished, there’s usually a period of time for creators to look through and report any corrections that need to be made in their pieces. Once those are fixed, it’s time for the zine's release or for sales and production! What fandoms are allowed in this zine?
This zine will be accepting any and all fandoms! Our interest check will help to determine the different fandoms that people want to see! What is this zine’s theme?
This zine’s theme is piss! Any and everything to do with it!Isn’t piss dead dove? How are you going to do a NSFW zine with piss?
While piss is generally considered dead dove, when you pick up a zine entitled Piss, Piss Fall In Love you’ve already been notified that this project will contain exactly that. Therefore, we can base the rating on all of the other tags in the piece. Our project is a profiction & proship zine, and all fandom pieces will be allowed as long as they are properly tagged.Do I have to create something with piss in it?
As this is the literal theme of the zine, yes. We expect creators to include piss (or any relevant aspect of piss) in their piece(s).I don’t like piss, can I still participate?
Sure! You don’t have to like or believe something personally to create for it. Anyone can create great works on a subject, though it is typically easier to do when you enjoy the topic at hand. After all, some of Rembrandt’s most famous pieces are displayed in the Vatican even though he’s a Protestant. Please note that we are a no-hate environment, which means that while we love to hear about what you do enjoy, but we’re not interested in what you dislike or hate. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and feelings, and we’re not invalidating those. We’re simply saying that there is no tolerance for hate or harassment in any form- drama doesn’t make for a welcoming environment. It IS welcome within your creations, though- drama makes for a great story!
